Cog Hill Golf & Country Club
Lemont, Illinois
Cog Hill is the manifestation of Joe Jemsek’s dream and a testament to his vision. Often referred to as the patriarch of Chicago golf, Joe Jemsek (1913-2002) was universally praised for raising the standard of public golf throughout the country by bringing private club conditions and amenities to the public player long before it was in vogue. Joe proved that providing first rate golf and clubhouse service, food and beverage for the public golfer could be profitable and thereby led many investors into providing quality public golf.
Today Joe’s family carries on the tradition and continues to provide world-class golf. At Cog Hill people from the area and all over the world arrive as guests and leave as friends.
With four 18-hole courses, including the world famous “Dubsdread” #4, Cog Hill has something to offer players of every level. The facility also includes a state-of-the-art learning center, a spacious dining room and locker facilities, a banquet center that caters to groups large and small and an award winning golf shop making Cog Hill a golfer’s paradise.
THE COURSES
Interesting layouts and well-conditioned courses have lured golfers to Cog Hill for more than 70 years. With four regulation courses, Cog Hill tests players at all levels. Courses #1 and #3 have enough sand, woods and water to test the accomplished player, but not to punish the beginner.
Course #2 (Ravines) is very sporty, championship caliber. Three new holes were constructed for the U.S. Amateur Championship and when substituted for the usual par 3, 4 and 5, are known as the tournament setting. They also permit a hole to be rotated in and out for construction or repair. Course #2 is every bit a championship course with tree lined-fairways, ravines, water, sand and testing greens.
Course #4 (Dubsdread) has been ranked nationally since it opened in 1964. It is known not only for its demands on shot making, but for its vast displays of natural beauty. Tight landing areas combined with heavily bunkered, large, undulating greens make the course a test for the best. It is here that the PGA Tour’s Western Open has been contested since 1990.
